Before Your Dental Visit

The visit to the dentist starts before the day of your appointment. While scheduling an initial consultation with VP Dental, you may be asked to do an appointment preparation and gather certain information regarding your medical history. This info is vital to Dr. Preston to know of any past health issues relating to oral or overall health.

Vital information may include implantable medical devices, past surgical procedures, or chronic medical conditions. This information is essential to conducting an oral health evaluation and providing the best care possible.

To ensure you receive the treatment you need, one of our friendly team members oversees the schedules for the dentist and hygienists. You can count on them to assist you with treatment plans and payment options. They will also work with you and your dental insurance providers to maximize your benefits and make the road to a new smile smooth.

What to Expect During Your Appointment

While the exact schedule varies depending on the nature of your visit, a routine dental exam starts with you being called back to one of our dental chairs. While in the chair, the dental hygienist begins cleaning your teeth.

Deep teeth cleanings help remove plaque from your teeth’ surfaces that may otherwise cause cavities and tooth decay. In addition, your hygienist will floss in between your teeth to eliminate any plaque your toothbrush could not reach. Following that, we highly recommend getting a fluoride treatment to help strengthen teeth and reduce tooth decay. Read more here.

When The Dentist Arrives

After the hygienist finishes your thorough teeth cleaning, Dr. Preston is called in to check your overall dental health and check your teeth for cavities or other problems. She will examine all tooth surfaces and the gum line to check for any issues.

If cavities are present, Dr. Preston may ask if you want them filled during the visit. It might be discovered that there are questionable areas on the surfaces of your teeth. She may offer a sealant treatment to reinforce the structure in that case.

If there are issues with the gums, Dr. Preston will recommend how best to care for them to prevent periodontal disease. She will also encourage you to continue to take good care of your teeth and give you a few tips to implement at home.

This is the best time to ask questions and talk with Dr. Preston about anything that may bother you about your smile.

Many people are not content with their smiles. But you need to understand that most people are not born with perfect Hollywood teeth. This is where cosmetic dentistry comes in.

Dr. Preston can correct crooked teeth, close gaps, correct stained or discolored teeth, chipped teeth, broken or missing teeth with dental implants, and even “gummy” smiles. You can finally have the smile you have always wanted! Your goals, concerns, and financial comfort level are all considered when we tailor a treatment plan for your smile.

While many people grow up going to the dentist twice a year, some don’t go until adulthood. For those of you who have never had a general dentistry appointment before, you may be a little bit nervous.
